TANG
the festival meeting place
Opening Night

Tang

This year’s festival bar is an installation, as much as a social retreat and a seaweed bar, all generously hosted by a king crab.

Together with stage designer Tatyana Ludanik and house DJ Matti Aikio, Trond and Kåre create a social space where you can immerse into a marine world. Take a swim in the seaweed pool, taste brews from the deep and elevate your polar silk road senses with authentic street-style Chinese food by Håkon Lindbæk (Kinakål.no). TangBAR is a place for guest performers by night and guest speakers by day, with a dash of sci-fi films in between — plus, of course, karaoke playing till last drinks are called.

Tang — as well as being one of the most popular surnames in China — is the Norwegian word for seaweed. This multiuse resources for our future is packed with a dizzying amount of nutrients and it is said to have once been brewed into beer by the indigenous civilisations of the Kamchatka peninsula in far east Russia.

Tang might in fact be our future food, alcohol and fuel — all in one. So, what might our future kinder egg taste like? Will   Chinese mould spores fused with northern seaweed be the new arctic wine? This and more the artists Trond Ansten and Kåre Grundvåg work to find out through their ecological and social experimentation into the use of seaweed and other marine resources.
